Let me start by saying that this is, without a doubt, the best BBQ in Lafayette. Hands down. Now that that’s out of the way, let me say this. This is also the most expensive BBQ in Lafayette. I didn’t think there would ever be a place that would come in a be more expensive than Johnson’s, but I was wrong. $18 for a pound of pulled pork is a lot to ask, but I don’t go to Blanchard’s for the pulled pork. I got for the brisket, which really is something else. It’s great food, but it is a treat. A rare and “splurge” treat. I understand that a lot of work goes into making a brisket tender and juicy the way that these guys get it, which reflects the cost. I’m just too cheap to go here often. The pimento mac and cheese is also fantastic. I highly recommend it. I’ve tried the ribs, pork, brisket, and chicken. It’s all been very good.
The dining room is a little smaller than I’m comfortable with, but it’s really not that bad. The real issue with the dining room is during the lunch rush. The line tends to back up into the dining room, which is understandable considering the kitchen isn’t that large. The issue comes if you’re along the area that the line forms. Between having an ass in your face or having talkers conversing while staring awkwardly at your food, it can be a little off-putting. Maybe I’m just being nit-picky, but that’s my take on it.
Nothing really wrong here. Most of the BBQ is prepared the day before or finished by that morning. So there shouldn’t be much of a wait for anything. The food is always out quickly and tastes really fresh. I’ve never had an issue with timeliness.
There is no table service at this place, so I cannot evaluate the service, other than what I experience at the counter. In those brief encounters, it’s been a great experience that I have no complaints about. The staff appears to know their menu’s and their position.
Once again, I’m going reiterate to those who are thinking about going for a quick lunch. You better show up with more than some pocket change. This place is pricey. Delicious and worth it, in my opinion, but will set you back a pretty penny. The BBQ is fantastic, the sides are delightful, and the experience is top notch. I hope they stick around for a long time.
