The Lab

The Good
  • Amazing coffee
  • Delicious cakes and pastries
  • Amazing ice creams
  • Comfortable atmosphere
The Bad
  • Limited seating during peak times
  • Slow kitchen during “SMC” days

I know that this isn’t a restaurant per se, but it’s one of my favorite places in town. The food at The Lab is baked goods, ice cream, and plenty of different teas and coffee. The coffee selection is super on point. They have multiple roasts from different roasters around the United States. The ice cream, that the owner has labeled a “sweet cream” is sort of like a halfway point between ice cream and a gelato. It’s delicious. The owner is always experimenting with flavors, so it’s best to go in every couple of weeks to see what’s new on the ice cream front. Also, lately they’ve had this new thing called “Saturday Morning Cartoons” which is exactly as it sounds. Cartoons are projected onto the wall and they serve themed treats such as waffles, cinnamon rolls, and other baked goodies. They’re all delicious by the way. I can’t find a single flaw with their coffee, tea, or baked goods. Amazing stuff.

The space is really well done. A really large bar for ordering and even sitting at. You can speak with the baristas as they work and it’s often a friendly and informative conversation. Many of the baristas are interested in their work and they’re happy to inform you of what they’re doing. The biggest complaint I have is that sometimes the area can feel a little cramped. If you don’t mind sharing some elbow room with neighbors, they have a big table that you can sit down at with people on your left and right. But, if you’re not with a few people and want a great place to sit, the couch is where it’s at.

Not perfect, but not bad at all. My drinks usually come out quickly. On the Saturday Morning Cartoons days, the food can take a little time, but it’s not bad at all. Especially if you’re with some friends. Sometimes drinks can take a little more time, but that’s because these baristas are meticulous about how they do things. Trust me, even if there is a wait, it’s worth it in my opinion.

I’ve never once had a bad experience with rudeness, shortness, or anything of the sort at The Lab. The baristas are all extremely friendly, happy, and appear to have a good time at work. There isn’t much more to say on this topic. I’ve always had my expectations of service exceeded at this place.

I did my absolute best to be as non-biased as possible in my review, but I’ll be open and upfront about The Lab. I love this place. I really do. It’s a good location that’s a good place to write, talk, have a good cup of Joe, or tea, and relax. I’m a big fan of this place and I hope the owner, Thomas, never changes.
